[...] I’ve just come across this post by John Richardson: 50 minutes has changed my life. The concept of working in a focused manner for 50 minutes and then taking a 10 minute break has revolutionized the way I work. I find that I am much more productive when I work in this manner. Instead of multi-tasking mania, this focused approach has led to single-tasking nirvana. [...]

Let me try that again.

I’ve been experimenting with this technique, and have found that the “absolute break” interval is key. I use a 55-5 mix, in which I work for 55 minutes and then take a 5 minute break from ALL work. I find that it works best if I use focused relaxation/visualization techniques, not just a 'bio break' or something else unstructured. I start that next hour with more energy than I started the day with!

Cheers,

Mike

Love this technique. I am using it now to study for my MBA. I used it to study to become a certified finanacial planner, certified project manager, certified software quality engineer and certified quality manager. I just put 50 min on my microwave timer. Will try it at work. For some reason never thought to.
