[...] When you first open Word 2007 for the first time, you’ll probably be surprised by the changes that Microsoft made to the user interface. Instead of the usual icons and menu selections, you are presented with their new fluent interface, called The Ribbon. This is a totally new way to get things done in the Office 2007 suite of programs. Unfortunately this new interface can be intimidating. [...]

Hi Michael,

I agree with your assessment that the younger generation will have an easier time with change. I can just hear your words coming true from our facilty and staff when we roll Office 2007 out...“I need a class. Why areen’t we given a class.” :-)

I agree with your assessment of "figuring things out". I am the technology coordinator at a public school district with about 2400 students. I hear no more complaining then when the program interface has changed. People just want to create their document, not learn a new program. And if they cannot immediately get what they need done... "I need a class. Why areen't we given a class."

This is were the newer generations have an advantage. They were born into a world that changes the interface every six months. They were never given classes on the new interfaces throughout their childhood. They are accustomed to (to phrase a well-know sneaker company) "Just Doing It!"
