Though I'm a fan of Seth Godin, I disagree with the snippet of the blog posting that's here. I believe that being an expert in one's field is both norm-based and criterion-referenced. Thus, one could indeed be considered "the best" realtor in a new, growing town - but that doesn't mean that one is actually a GOOD realtor. In order to be considered "the best", you should look good when compared to others around you and you should have mastered a set of objective knowledge that's recognized as the standard in your field. Perhaps you can become the big fish in a little pond in under 10,000 hours, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you'll be good at what you do. Hmmm.
