Matt, great examples of vague goals. When setting goals, the more specific you can make them, the better chance you have of reaching them. For example, if your goal includes a car, you must know the model, the price, and all the cool stuff it does. You need to see yourself driving it. You need to see your friends and family riding in it and using all the features.

You also need to make your goals exciting if possible. This may be the reason a boring gray car doesn't work very well as a passionate goal, but focusing on a bright red Corvette with 500 horsepower might be a different story... :-)

Have an amazing 2010!

Spencer, thank you for your comments. I many times think of the "why" as our "purpose." When I think of purpose, it usually extends past my personal boundaries and encompasses others. This helps me see the big picture.

You have a great website,

Have a successful and prosperous 2010,

Hi,

This is exactly what we need to make a dream come true. Good article. I have met so many people who say "I would like more money" or "a car".

That isn't a big enough dream to really want to make it happen. It has to be something so important that you want to do something about right now!

Thanks

Timing is everything. Just this morning I was on my soap box sharing with my team that passion and creating "the why" around a project, program, or destination is key to success.

I believe that success happens when people can dig deep into their own heart and pull out their personal "why" for accomplishing something. When you are emotionally charged and connected you will have results that matter.

Live you goals from the heart. Passion will lead you to success. Start with your own personal vision and let that lead you forward.

Great article, thank you.
